biBerk is the direct-to-business small commercial insurer within Berkshire Hathaway, selling online without an agent and underwriting on its own paper.

The direct model is the whole proposition: you quote and bind a small laundromat policy yourself in a single sitting, usually at a lower premium than the same coverage placed through an agency, because there is no commission in the price. For a single store with straightforward exposures and no unusual risk, that is a reasonable way to buy.

The trade is advocacy. There is no broker to argue a coverage position at claim time or to re-market your policy when a renewal jumps, and no one to tell you the endorsement you skipped is the one this category needs. If you buy direct, do the diligence yourself: confirm equipment breakdown, water damage and business interruption explicitly, and keep the declarations page where your lender can find it.
